Anne Burrell Leaves Behind Roughly $2 Million Estate After Death at 55

Anne Burrell left behind an estate worth roughly $2 million after her tragic death at the age of 55, Us Weekly can report.

On Tuesday, June 17, the Food Network star was found unresponsive inside her home in Brooklyn, New York. Her cause of death has yet to be determined.

According to real estate records obtained by Us, Burrell purchased the three-bedroom, two-bathroom, 1,570 square-foot home in 2019.

The celebrity chef paid $1,530,000 for the property and took out a mortgage for $1,224,000.

In 2022, official records showed Burrell owed $1.1 million on the mortgage. The home is worth an estimated $1.94 million currently.

The listing for the home boasted about “huge windows” and “handsome oak flooring.” The building amenities include a 24/7 attended lobby and laundry on-site.

Burrell spoke to Brooklyn Palate about her home in 2024.

She told the outlet, “I wanted to create a place of warmth, color, and joy. A place where you can come in and feel comfortable and happy. I filled the space with things that I have collected throughout my life that bring me joy.”

She added, “I also love my Brooklyn neighborhood. It still feels a little old school. I love walking up and down the street.”

As Us previously reported, the Worst Cooks in America host was found dead inside her home in the early morning.

A spokesperson for the New York Police Department told Us that the chef was pronounced dead “at the scene.”

Law enforcement had responded to a 911 call, which led to them discovering Burrell “unconscious.” The caller said that Burrell had gone into cardiac arrest.

The discovery came hours after Burrell made her improv debut at The Second City, which is located close to where she lived.

A woman was found at around 7:50 a.m. the day after her set at the comedy club, according to the New York Police Department.

The NYPD did not identify Burrell as the woman, but the address for the incident matches Burrell’s home address.

On Tuesday, Burrell’s family released a statement on her passing.

The family told Us, “Anne was a beloved wife, sister, daughter, stepmother, and friend — her smile lit up every room she entered,” the statement read. “Anne’s light radiated far beyond those she knew, touching millions across the world. Though she is no longer with us, her warmth, spirit, and boundless love remain eternal.”

“We are deeply saddened to share the news that beloved chef, Anne Burrell, passed away this morning,” a rep for Food Network said. “Anne was a remarkable person and culinary talent – teaching, competing and always sharing the importance of food in her life and the joy that a delicious meal can bring. Our thoughts are with Anne’s family, friends and fans during this time of tremendous loss.”

As Us previously reported, Burrell wed her husband, Stuart Claxton, in October 2021.

The two got engaged in April 2020 while they were quarantined together during the pandemic. The duo was with Burrell’s parents at a home together.

“We started talking about family and just how nice it was to be here with everyone, so I sort of started getting weepy already,” Burrell told People. “Then, Stuart pulls a ring out of his pants pocket, and I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, I can’t believe this is even happening.’”

Weeks before her death, Burrell spoke lovingly about her husband.

“October will be four years,” Burrell told the Daily Mail earlier this year. ‘It seems like it’s been four minutes. I don’t know if it’s a honeymoon [phase], but I feel like it’s settled into married life days which I really enjoy.”

Burrell is survived by her spouse, his son Javier, her mother, Marlene, and her sister, Jane.

She was born on September 21, 1969, in New York. She graduated from the Culinary Institute of America in 1996.
