Jana Kramer and Jessie James Decker’s new duet, “Do It in Heels,” is all about the power of women and moms who do it all.
Kramer, 41, pulled from her real-life dating experience for inspiration behind the lyrics.
“I wrote the song when I was single mom-ing it [and] I was single at the time,” she exclusively told Us Weekly of the new track, which features Decker, 37, noting she was looking to write a “girl anthem, but not cheesy.”
Kramer recalled, “I actually went out to Los Angeles, had a really bad date. The next day I wrote this song. I was like, ‘I don’t even wanna be sad about the bad date that I just had.’”
Jana Kramer’s New Song Is a Love Letter to Husband Allan Russell
The One Tree Hill alum, who is now married to Allan Russell, remembered feeling like she knew everything would come together when the timing was right.
“I had always known I’d be where I’m at right now,” she said. “I had hoped to be where I’m at today, but then I’ll always have a pull for the single mamas out there doing it [for] the ladies. Knowing that we have so much on our plates that are spinning and we do it with a lot of grace and class.”
Kramer split from her ex-husband Mike Caussin, with whom she shares daughter Jolie, 9, and son Jayce, 6, in April 2021.
While writing the song, Kramer instantly thought of teaming up with longtime friend Decker, who is a mother of four. (She shares kids Vivianne, 11, Eric Jr., 9, Forrest, 7, and Denver, 16 months, with husband Eric Decker.)
“Who better to bring [than] Jessie? Who does it so well too,” Kramer gushed. “She’s a prime example of a woman that is the ultimate girl’s girl and mom who does it all.”
In the song, which is now available to stream, Kramer and Decker croon about women doing everything men can do — but in style.
“Honey, let’s be real, you couldn’t walk a day in these Jimmy Choos,” Kramer belts out in one of the verses.
The chorus, meanwhile, reminds fans that women “ain’t even tripping at all / babies, him and business standing tall and we do it in heels.”
Jana Kramer and Husband Allan Russell’s Relationship Timeline
And while Kramer was a single mom when she wrote the song, she was pregnant with baby No. 3 when she pitched the concept to Decker.
“We were both pregnant at the time,” Kramer told Us. “And so it was like, ‘All right, we gotta do this.’ She agreed and then we’re like, ‘All right, we gotta have our babies and then we’ll do it.’”
Kramer welcomed her and Russell’s son, Roman, in November 2023. The couple tied the knot in January 2024 before having a formal wedding in Scotland that July.
Decker, meanwhile, welcomed son Denver with husband Eric, 38, in February 2024.
Pregnancy bond and friendship aside, the Kittenish founder exclusively told Us that she “loved” the song “instantly” and felt like it resonated with multitasking women everywhere.
“I love that Jana wanted this to be a duet with another woman because, for me, it brings in that girl camaraderie even more so. We’re in this together, this is it,” Decker shared, noting that she experienced womanhood at its finest after she had her youngest child. “As soon as I had my last baby, I was blown away by the amount of different moms from the school bringing in meals and bringing candles and they had a chain. I’d never experienced anything like that.”

She continued, “It was just women supporting women. It was so beautiful. And that’s what I love about this song is it’s the same message, you know — women who can do it all and do it with a smile on your face.”
Decker laughed, adding, “And not because you need to put a smile on your face, but because you’re a badass and this is what we do. We can multitask and, you know, make a pie and go do our jobs and feed the babies at the same time.”
