Katy Perry dropped a subtle hint that she can take a joke about her budding romance with Justin Trudeau.
The pop star, 40, recently left a “like” on an Instagram post from parody newspaper The Onion, which shared a story on Monday, October 20, referencing Perry’s relationship with the former Canadian prime minister, 53.
“Katy Perry Releases New Single About Superiority Of Canadian Manufacturing,” read the faux headline.
The joke continued in the caption, with The Onion including a fake quotation from Perry that read, “When I learned about the strength of Canadian automotive and aerospace manufacturing, I knew I had to put it in a song.”

Perry has so far not said much about her romance with Trudeau, which first made headlines when the duo were spotted on a dinner date in July. The closest she came was earlier this month when she made a joke about no longer “falling for” English guys.
“London, England, you’re like this on a Monday night after a whole day at work and a whole day at school?” the “Roar” singer said during her Lifetimes World Tour concert at the O2 Arena in London on October 13, according to The Sun. “No wonder I fall for Englishmen all the time … but not anymore.”
Perry and former fiancé Orlando Bloom, who is British, confirmed their split in July after nearly a decade together. The pair share daughter Daisy Dove, 5. (Perry was previously married to another British bloke, Russell Brand, from 2010 to 2012.)

Trudeau, for his part, married Sophie Grégoire Trudeau in 2005. The estranged duo, who share three kids, announced their separation in 2023. Trudeau was the prime minister of Canada from 2015 until March of this year. He announced his plan to resign in January.
Shortly after Perry and Trudeau’s dinner date, the former politician was spotted attending her tour stop in Montreal.
Last month, an insider exclusively confirmed to Us Weekly that the duo were still seeing each other.
“They’ve decided to be much more private about it,” one source said at the time. “They are still speaking and are very interested in each other.”

A second insider noted that the pair’s relationship “isn’t serious” because Perry is “extremely busy right now” on her Lifetimes tour.
“Justin has made plans to see her when she has downtime in a few weeks when she gets back from her tour in Brazil,” the second insider said, referring to the short break Perry had before the European leg of her tour began on October 4. “Katy is taking it day by day but is very open to dating.”
Earlier this month, Trudeau and Perry were spotted packing on the PDA on a yacht off the coast of Santa Barbara, California. Perry wore a black one-piece swimsuit while cuddling with a shirtless Trudeau, who kept it casual in jeans and sunglasses. In one snap obtained by the Daily Mail, he wrapped his arms around Perry with his hand on her butt as she nuzzled his neck.
